Public records are listed on consumers credit history and his credit report. There are three kinds of public records that a credit bureau collects from the public records.
Court judgments from civil courts and federal courts, tax liens which are the unpaid taxes to the government and filings for bankruptcy of the three public records that find their way on the credit report.
Except for bankruptcy or the other public records stay on the credit report for a period of seven years from the date of filing. Bankruptcy can stay on the credit report for a period of 10 years. Court judgments may be regarding unpaid debt that the lender sues the consumer for be it a credit card debt or an unpaid rent to a landlord. Tax liens unpaid taxes that are owed to the government while bankruptcy is a legal procedure by which a person who can no longer afford to pay off his debts is released of the money that he owes to the lenders.
All information present on a credit report is concerned with credit. Other kinds of public records such as criminal record, arrest record, criminal law suits, property tax record or other types of publicly available government records are not listed on the credit report. A credit report also does not contain information about income, investments and bank accounts that are not connected to some loan or credit such as savings accounts and current accounts.
However, other organizations that perform a function of background check may collect information from a variety of sources and compile them into a single report. Background check company usually perform specialized services for individuals and businesses who need to verify the credentials of a person before dealing with them professionally. Other kind of organization called the debit bureaus also maintain information about savings and checking accounts as well.
