How Long Automobile Repossession Remain on the Credit Report

An automobile repossession stays on the credit report for a period of seven years. Even if you pay off the car on the original date when the delinquency was first reported which would be the date of your first missed car payment will stay on your credit report for a period of seven years.  A credit history is exactly that.  It is the history of your credit accounts and shows the life of every credit account good or bad over a period of time.  Different kinds of information stay on for a different period of time on your credit report with seven years being a typical standard duration of time for several negative transactions such as late payments, delinquent accounts etc.
For this reason it is important that your history shows a record and pattern of current payments.  The older the negative information on your credit report the lesser will be the impact on your credit report till the time it is taken off the record and ceases to have any effect on your credit score at all.
